Question about my dad's weird rule that I couldn't shower after 9pm

Any time I took a shower past 9pm he'd pound on the door yelling that I was stealing hot water from him, even in summer when the heater was basically off. I was 16 in Bakersfield and just wanted to wash off after closing shifts at the pizza place, so how was I supposed to know that was a real thing or just him being cheap?

Bakersfield summers are brutal so wanting a shower after a pizza shift at 16 is not asking for much. Your dad pounding on the door over hot water in July when the heater is off sounds less like a water issue and more like a control thing, and that had to be exhausting to deal with every night. You weren't dumb for not knowing, he just made it your problem instead of explaining anything.
