My dad's advice to 'just microwave it' ruined my cast iron pan
Left my skillet to soak overnight after a cookout last August, and he actually threw it in the microwave to 'clean it' the next morning. Has anyone else had kitchen gear destroyed by a parent who thought they were helping?

I mean, it's a chunk of iron, right? You can probably just reseason it and be back in business, it's not like he melted it down. Seems like a lot of drama over something that takes an hour to fix.

How much time have you actually spent fixing a badly stripped cast iron pan though... because that "chunk of iron" comment suggests you've never dealt with one that's been sanded down with power tools or left in a fire pit overnight. The seasoning isn't the main issue here, it's the structural damage from aggressive grinding or uneven heating that can warp or thin out the metal. Plus getting that factory smooth surface back takes way more than an hour if you want it to hold seasoning properly again. Have you tried reseasoning a pan that's been sanded to bare metal with deep scratches and pitting... it's not the same as a pan you just burned some eggs in.
