My dad told me I was holding a knife wrong for 20 years

He said I was using a pinch grip on the blade itself, not the handle, and that I would cut myself eventually. After six months of forcing myself to hold it his way, my chopping speed doubled and I haven't nicked a finger since. Anyone else get a weird grip habit from a parent that turned out to be dangerous?

Huh, my dad spent years telling me I was opening a beer bottle wrong with my teeth. Never cut myself but I did crack a molar.

Yeah the "opening with your teeth" thing feels like a rite of passage but it's a trap. I cracked a tooth doing that years ago and spent a fortune at the dentist. What finally worked for me was just using a cheap bottle opener keychain. I keep one on my car keys so it's always around. Saves your teeth and your wallet, @black.pat. Plus it's way faster once you get used to it. Trust me, the dentist bills are not worth looking cool for five seconds.
