My dad set 7 alarms for me in 2009 to beat traffic and I still show up 20 min early to everything
When I was 16 back in 2009, my dad got this idea in his head that if I was not 30 minutes early to school, I was basically late. So he set 7 alarms. Seven. Starting at 4:50am, one every 10 minutes, all labeled stuff like DONT SNOOZE DO IT. I lived in Fresno and school started at 7:45 but he had me walking out the door at 6:15 because of some traffic jam he hit one time in 2003. Now Im 31 and I still cannot show up anywhere at the normal time. I get to work 20 min early, I sit in my car outside friends parties looking like a weirdo, I showed up 45 min early to a dentist appointment in Sacramento and just waited in the lot. My wife thinks its funny but honestly it makes me anxious if Im not first somewhere. Did anyone elses parents do the early bird thing and did it ever wear off for you?
Man, 7 alarms is wild. My mom was the same way but with only 2, and I still left the house at 6am for a 7:40 bell. Now I'm the guy sitting in the parking lot at work for 25 minutes every single day because leaving later gives me this weird panic feeling. My wife calls it my "car time" like I'm doing some kind of meditation. At least we're early and not the people sprinting in with their shirt on backwards.
