Just realized my parents' fridge strategy is why my sink is backed up today
My kitchen sink clogged up real bad Monday morning, the kind where standing water sits there for hours. I grabbed my plunger and then remembered my mom always told me to pour boiling water down the drain once a month to keep it clear. But I never do it cause it feels like one more chore on my list, you know? My dad was the same way with car oil changes, always said "every 3,000 miles" and then we'd go 6,000 and wonder why the engine knocked. So here I am at 2 AM with a bucket under the pipe, taking apart the trap with a wrench I found in the garage. Has anyone else inherited a bad habit that directly caused a mess in your house?

Oh man, this is painfully relatable. My dad had the same thing with oil changes, 3,000 miles on the dot but we'd blow past it every time. And my mom never cleaned out her dryer vent, just kept running it until the lint caught fire one time. So naturally I picked up that exact habit, ran my dryer for three years without touching the vent, and then last month had to tear the whole thing apart because it was baking my clothes instead of drying them. Now I'm the guy who sets phone reminders for drain cleaner and lint checks, which feels ridiculous but better than another emergency trip to the hardware store.
