Just realized my dad’s 'save money' rule might have backfired

I was talking to my cousin Linda last weekend, and she told me her parents let her buy new shoes every 6 months. My dad made me wear mine until holes showed up, even if they hurt my feet. Now I'm wondering if his whole 'wear it out' philosophy taught me to be cheap or just stubborn. Which side did your parents lean on?

My dad was the same way, made me wear sneakers until the soles were practically gone. Now I'm 30 and I still buy cheap shoes that fall apart in 6 months because it feels wasteful to spend more. It's like the rule broke my ability to buy quality stuff lol.

So you know they're junk but buy them anyway out of habit?
