Hit 30 years old and realized my parents never taught me about credit scores

I turned 30 last week and checked my credit for the first time. It was 540. My parents never talked about money management at all, now I'm stuck fixing this mess for years. Did anyone else's folks just skip the whole adulting talk?

Yeah did anyone else get the whole "just dont buy stuff you cant afford" speech and then nothing else? My dad was big on that but forgot to mention how credit scores work or that having zero credit history is actually worse than bad credit. I got my first card at 22 and just used it for gas, paid it off every month, thought I was fine. Then I tried to get a car loan at 25 and they were like sorry we cant see anything. Its wild how parents think if you just avoid the topic itll work itself out.

Joel603, I actually think your dad's advice was solid because avoiding debt is better than relying on credit to dig out of a hole.
