Can we talk about how my mom's 'you can be anything' advice left me with zero practical backup plan

I chased a creative career for 8 years in Austin, hit a wall with rent hikes, and now I'm wondering if her endless optimism just set me up for a harder crash, so who else got pumped full of dreams but zero safety nets from their parents?

Gotta disagree here. My mom told me the same thing and I took it as "try hard stuff, but have a fallback." That's on you for not making a plan B.

My plan B was "ask my mom for money" which clearly backfired (spoiler: she said no). That's fair though @patricia317, I probably should've had something more solid than just hoping for the best. Live and learn, I guess.
