Switched from coal to propane for my forge last spring
I used to spend 20 minutes just getting a good fire going with coal, fighting with dampers and clinkers. Then I picked up a used propane forge from a guy in Tucson and the first heat came up in under 2 minutes. Has anyone else made the switch and found it changed how often they actually fire up the forge?

Propane definitely makes it easier to just walk out and start working. You don't have to plan ahead for a long heat up time anymore. The big thing nobody warned me about was tuning the air mixture - I had to fiddle with my regulator and choke plate for a good week before I stopped getting that dirty yellow flame. Once you get that neutral flame dialed in right, the heat control is SO much better than coal ever was for me.

Did you ever try drilling a small hole in the choke plate?
