PSA: I found out my forge weld fails were from using the wrong flux ratio

Looked up a chart from a 1980s blacksmithing journal and saw I was using way too much borax, been struggling with cold shuts for 2 years because of it, anyone else ever dig through old manuals and find out you've been doing something basic wrong the whole time?

Used to think old manuals were obsolete too till I found the same thing.

Nah the old stuff is just outdated, your flux was fine.
