Pro tip: don't buy cheap anvils from Amazon like I did

I dropped $180 on a 66 lb cast iron anvil off Amazon thinking I was saving money, but it dented on my third project and the face chipped on the fourth. Turns out it's just hardened gray iron, not steel, so it's basically useless for real forging work. Anyone got a lead on a good used anvil in the Midwest that won't break the bank?

Yeah I snagged a beat up Fisher off Craigslist for $150. Works fine after cleaning the rust off.

Skip the Amazon junk entirely. Hit up local farm auctions or estate sales, that's where the real deals hide. I scored a solid Vulcan for $100 that way, just needed a wire wheel treatment.

You ever see a buddy sink good money into something that just falls apart right away? My friend Mike bought one of those off-brand pressure washers from an online flash sale, looked decent in the pictures. First time he tried to use it on a dirty driveway, the pump seized up after maybe ten minutes. He tried to warranty it, but the company just ghosted him. Total waste of two hundred bucks. Now he just borrows my old rig whenever he needs to clean something. Stick to the estate sales and auctions, that's where the real value is.
