Hit 1000 hours on my old coal forge and the firebox finally gave out

I thought it would last maybe 500, but it held strong for twice that. Anyone else had a piece of gear last way longer than you expected?

That's a solid run for a coal forge. Makes you wonder how much longer some of our other tools could go if we just let them.

Let them" is the key part. We replace stuff way before its time because we're told to. My grandad's drill press is older than me and still works fine. Planned obsolescence is a scam.

My dad's 1987 Toyota pickup just rolled over 300,000 miles on the original engine. We fix stuff when it breaks and it just keeps going.
