Had to pick between a coal forge and a gas forge for my home setup

I went with coal because I found a used one for $150 on Craigslist, but after 3 months of fighting with smoke and temperature control, I'm wondering if I should've just saved up for gas instead. Has anyone else made the switch from coal to gas and regretted it or loved it?

Wait, you paid $150 for a coal forge? Did it come with a bucket of tears or what? lmao

my buddy carter bought one of those exact forges for $120 last summer. first time he lit it up the firepot cracked straight down the middle after like 20 minutes. he tried to patch it with jb weld but it just melted off and made a huge mess. bro had to buy a whole new one from a real blacksmith supplier for $80 more. so yeah $150 for a forge that dies on you is basically paying for a lesson.
