Dropped $180 on a gas forge that couldn't hold heat past 2000F

Bought that compact propane forge online and after three days of fighting with insulation and burner angles in my garage in Dayton, the thing maxed out at 1950F on a good day, so if you're starting out, save your cash and build a refractory-lined drum instead, has anyone else been burned by cheap forge kits?
