Burned a railroad spike on my first try and the boss hung it on the shop wall
I tried quenching a spike in old motor oil instead of water at the shop in Fairbanks and it came out looking like a burnt hot dog with a weird rainbow sheen. Has anyone else had a quench go sideways like that, and did you keep the piece or scrap it?
