Am I the only one who quenched a hardy in old motor oil and got a finish better than my quench tank

I ran out of my usual quench oil last Tuesday and grabbed a jug of used 10W-30 from the garage, and the hardy came out with this dark even coat and almost no scale. Is that just the oil or did I get lucky, and does used motor oil hold up over time?
