Tried watching a show with a 9.5 rating on IMDB and bailed after 3 episodes

Started The Wire last month because everyone says it's the best TV show ever made, but I couldn't get into the slow pacing at all. Has anyone else felt like they missed something with a highly rated show or is it just me?

Wait, did you say you bailed on The Wire after 3 episodes? That's not slow pacing, that's just the setup. The first few episodes are basically just introducing like 20 different characters and their whole world, it's supposed to feel a little messy at first. I remember almost quitting too because I couldn't tell who was who and nothing was happening, but around episode 5 or 6 it clicks and you realize every little conversation and detail from those early episodes actually matters later. The Wire's a slow burn for sure, but calling it slow pacing is like saying a novel has too many words on page one. Give it at least half the season before you decide, that's where the payoff starts.

Nah, I'm gonna have to disagree here. Three episodes is plenty of time to know if something clicks for you. I get that The Wire is supposed to be this masterpiece but forcing yourself through boring TV just because other people say it's great doesn't make much sense to me. Life's too short to wait until episode 6 for a show to get good. Some of us just don't have the patience for shows that treat the first half of a season like homework. If it doesn't grab you early on, that's the show's fault not yours.
