The chat my sister had with me about Ozark really flipped my view
She pointed out how every character kept making the same bad choices and that's actually what made me keep watching. I never thought of it that way before, but now I can't unsee it. Has anyone else had a conversation where someone broke down a show in a way that totally changed how you saw it?

Hmm, I gotta push back on that "study in human weakness" idea though. I think you're giving these writers too much credit honestly. Shows like Ozark are still just thrill rides at the end of the day, they're not some deep moral lesson about human nature. The bad choices keep happening because the writers need to keep the plot going, not because it reveals something profound about people. If characters just learned their lesson and changed, the show would end in season 2 and nobody would talk about it. It's more like a formula than a study to me. I feel like people overthink TV shows when the real answer is usually simpler, like the creators just needed another season.

Wait, did she actually say that? Thats wild because I had like the EXACT same realization but about Breaking Bad with my roommate last year. He pointed out how Walt kept doubling down on his lies even when he had an easy way out, and I just sat there stunned for a minute. It made the whole rewatch feel completely different knowing each bad decision was like a chain reaction. Shows are way more interesting when you see them as a study in human weakness instead of just plot twists. Never thought about Ozark that way but now I gotta rewatch it with fresh eyes.
