My buddy Mike finally got me to watch The Bear after I swore it off for months
He just said 'it's not about cooking, it's about panic and family dysfunction' and that clicked for me - binged all 18 episodes in 3 days. Anyone else have a show they resisted until someone described it the right way?

Felt the exact same way about Succession. My friend kept saying it was just rich people yelling at each other which sounded exhausting. Then she described it as a tragedy about people who have everything and nothing at the same time and suddenly I got it. Binge watched two seasons in a week. Sometimes all it takes is that one perfect description to hook you.

I read this review once that called it "King Lear for the 1%" and that clicked for me way more than it should have. Idk, I think that tragedy part is what makes it work, cause otherwise it's just a bunch of awful people being awful.

Oh man, I was the exact same way with Succession! My roommate kept pushing it but I just saw it as rich people problems and rolled my eyes. Then she compared it to a slow-motion car crash you can't look away from and that got me. @danielw88 really nailed it with that King Lear comparison too, I never connected those dots but it makes so much sense now. Actually ended up loving how it made me feel weirdly bad for these awful people who had zero life skills despite having everything.
