I finally finished The Bear in 5 days and the thing nobody mentions is how quiet it gets
I burned through all of The Bear in 5 days while I was home sick with a cold in Cleveland, and around season 2 it hit me that the show barely has any music in the kitchen scenes. Everyone talks about the yelling and the family dinner episode, but the silence when they're plating food is what got me. I know this sounds random but I've watched a lot of cooking shows and they always shove a soundtrack under every shot, so I noticed it right away. Did the quiet bug anyone else or did it make it feel more real for you?
This tracks with how kitchens actually sound, which is mostly a fan hum and the clack of tongs. I worked a line for two years and the only music we ever had was a radio somebody kept under the pass, turned down so low you couldn't really hear it. Cutting the soundtrack does way more for the stress than any song could.
