Finally figured out why people skip the intro on The Wire

I kept seeing posts where folks say they gave up on The Wire after two episodes and I couldn't figure out why. Then I realized they were skipping the opening credits every time. The song changes based on the season's theme, and the montage shows real Baltimore footage that sets up the whole mood. If you skip it, you miss a big piece of what makes the show work. Has anyone else noticed how much the intro actually tells you about the season ahead?

Wait, is that actually a hot take though? I totally get what you mean. I felt the same way watching Season 2 (which, no spoilers, but the whole thing with the docks hits different if you actually watch the credits and see the cameras catching up with the cargo containers). I used to skip the intro on Breaking Bad all the time, then realized how much I was missing. The Wire is the same deal - it's like the show's way of telling you "hey, pay attention, this is gonna matter later." I even feel like the music shift from season to season (especially that sadder version in Season 4) gives you a little lump in your throat before the episode even starts.

C'mon, is it really that deep? People skip intros on every show and still get the gist just fine. The Wire is a great series but the opening credits aren't some secret decoder ring for the whole season.
