Burned $80 on a box set with bad filler episodes
Last month I grabbed a complete series box set of a show that had great reviews for season 1. Paid $80 without checking how long the later seasons stretched things out. Turned out seasons 3 and 4 were mostly flashback recaps and side plots that went nowhere. I forced myself through 12 hours of filler just to finish, and honestly the last episode made me regret the whole thing. Lesson learned: always check the episode count per season and read user reviews about pacing before buying physical media. Anyone else get stuck with a show that ran way past its good material? How do you spot that before dropping cash?

Filler episodes are one thing, but you gotta watch out for the opposite problem too. Some shows cram so much into the last season they wreck the whole story. I bought a box set once where season 1 was tight and smart, then the finale tried to wrap up like five different plot lines in one episode. Ended up with nonsense twists and a rushed ending that made me wish I'd just stopped after season 1. The real trick is checking how the show ended before you buy, not just how long it ran. Look up if the creator left early or if the network made them stretch it out. That tells you more than any episode count ever will.
