Shoutout to the $30 bearing press I grabbed on a whim
It saved me from a full afternoon of hammering cups into a carbon frame last week. Anyone have a better trick for setting headset races without the proper tool?

You spent thirty bucks on a bearing press? That's wild, mine cost over a hundred and I thought that was a deal. For races, a big socket and a mallet usually gets me close enough if I'm in a pinch. Just go slow and keep it straight.

My neighbor uses a bench vise and some scrap pipe.

I mean, I got a cheap press kit from Harbor Freight years ago and it's still going strong. The races are the tricky part for sure, I've totally used a socket set and a dead blow hammer in a pinch. You just have to tap it all the way around, little by little, to keep it from binding up.
