Seatpost bolt stripped on a Sunday ride, learned a trick with a hose clamp
Had a seatpost binder strip out on me yesterday about 12 miles into a group ride near Tacoma. Old aluminum frame, steel bolt, and the PO must have overtorqued it so the threads just gave up. Nobody had the right size spare so I grabbed a small hose clamp from my saddle bag, wrapped it around the post collar, and cinched it down over the existing clamp. Got me home the last 8 miles without the saddle dropping. Anyone else carry weird emergency parts like that, or is it just me being paranoid with my bag full of zipties and spoke wrenches?
Man that sucks but you saved yourself a long walk with that clamp trick. I keep a couple of those tiny hose clamps in my bag too along with the usual zipties and a few chain links. Had a guy in our group snap a rear derailleur cable last year and we got him home with a short piece of cable and a cable crimp we scrounged up. Being the guy with a heavy bag beats standing on the side of the road waiting for a ride. I'd rather carry the extra weight than get stranded out there.
