Rant: I stopped using a torque wrench on carbon bars and got roasted for it
Last month at my shop in Austin, I had a customer's carbon handlebar slip mid-ride because I torqued it to spec with a beam wrench, but the grip compound I used was still wet and I didn't wait the full cure time. I now torque by feel and check with a quick twist after 24 hours, and haven't had a single issue since, even on wet group rides. Am I crazy for trusting my hands over the tool, or has anyone else ditched the torque spec for real-world setup?

Torque wrenches are great until they give you false confidence, right? I had the same thing happen on a set of alloy bars, torqued to spec and they still shifted because the stem face was greasy. Now I just snug it down, give it a good shake test, and recheck after a few rides, never looked back.
