Disc brake pads, sintered vs resin, I picked wrong on a group ride last month

I swapped my pads right before a 60 mile loop near Asheville and went with resin because the price was half. Two long descents in and they were fading hard, I had to pull the lever all the way to the bar to slow down. Sintered pads are louder and pricier but they hold up when things get hot. Has anyone else had resin pads die on them mid-ride or am I just pushing too hard?

Man that sucks, I feel for you. I did the exact same thing on a big climb in the Blue Ridge last year, thought I was saving money and ended up white-knuckling every switchback on the way down. Resin pads just turn to glass when they get hot, it's not even a question of pushing too hard, it's just physics doing its thing. The worst part is when you're mid-descent and you realize you've got nothing left, that panic feeling when the lever goes soft is something you don't forget. I switched back to sintered after that and yeah, they're noisy and they wear your rotors a bit faster, but I'll take that over the whole "praying the brakes catch" situation. Hope your fingers are still working after that ride, mine were cramping for two days.
