Yeah that sounds about right. Most vacuum sealers have that little line or arrow showing where the seal hits but nobody reads the manual. I did the same thing with my first one - was putting the bag in backwards for months until the seal kept failing. Finally watched a video and felt like an idiot.

Actually @sage_dixon that little arrow is usually the bag placement guide, not the heat strip location.
