Snapped my favorite shovel handle clearing snow this morning

I was out there at 6 AM trying to clear my driveway here in Buffalo (we got like 8 inches overnight) and I was really leaning into a heavy wet chunk near the curb. The wood just gave a loud crack and the handle split right in half near the grip. I wanted to scream something about how nothing is built to last anymore but my neighbor was already out with his snowblower looking at me. I just stood there holding two pieces of broken shovel like an idiot. Then he offered to let me borrow his spare shovel which was nice but also sort of humiliating you know. I bit my tongue on the rant about cheap tools and just thanked him instead. Has anyone else had a trusted tool just fail on them during a simple job? I'm thinking about getting a metal handle next time but I don't want to be that guy who overdoes it.

Oh man, I feel your pain. At least you didn't end up taking a surprise face-plant into the snow pile like I did once.
