Shoutout to the bartender who saved me from saying something dumb at a wedding
I was at my cousin's wedding in Austin last Saturday and the best man gave this rambling toast about how the groom 'finally settled.' I was three drinks in and literally opened my mouth to say 'settled like a dog on a porch?' But the bartender caught my eye and just shook his head real slow. I shut my mouth and went back to my whiskey. Has anyone else had a stranger save them from a foot-in-mouth moment like that?

That "settled like a dog on a porch" line would have been gold in the right moment but yeah, a wedding toast isn't it. I had a similar thing happen at a work party where a buddy put his hand on my shoulder when I was about to ask a VP if his new hair plugs were covered by insurance. Bartenders and friends who know when to shut you up are worth their weight in gold. Next time just nod and take a sip of whiskey, it almost always works.

Dylan, that "worth their weight in gold" part is spot on. A good wingman knows when to pull the plug before you step in it. But I'll tell you, sometimes that whiskey sip is just buying time until the next dumb comment slips out. The trick is finding someone who can read your face before you even open your mouth.
