Question about hitting 10 years at the same job without noticing

I was filling out a form last week for a loan and had to write down how long I have been at my current company. I counted up the years and it came to exactly 10. That stopped me cold for a minute because I never set out to stay that long. I just kept showing up and the years piled up. Has anyone else reached a number or milestone that surprised you like that?

Did you ever stop and think if that's a good thing or a bad thing? I hit 8 years at my last place before I even realized it and it was just comfortable enough that I stayed way longer than I should have.

So what made it comfortable enough to stay? Was it the people, the routine, or just not wanting to deal with the hassle of finding something new? I've seen folks stick around for years just because they liked their coworkers and the work was easy, even when they knew they'd outgrown the place.

Man, I totally get that, it's crazy how easy it is to just coast when things are decent enough.
