My brother told me to stop hand-sanding drywall and rent a pole sander

I spent 3 weekends sanding my garage ceiling by hand. My shoulders were shot. He kept saying rent one for $30 from Home Depot. I finally gave in last Tuesday. Finished the whole ceiling in 4 hours and my arms don't hurt. Has anyone else fought against using the right tool and regretted it?

Oh you think you won huh? What about the satisfaction of a job done purely by muscle? I did my whole basement ceiling by hand over two weekends and yeah my arms felt like rubber bands but I also got like 4x the dust control. Pole sander just flings crap everywhere and you miss all the low spots unless you're super careful. Plus you paid $30 for something you used once and now it's just sitting in your garage taking up space. Hand sanding builds character man.

Hand sanding builds character and dust control, but my shoulders prefer the pole.

Learn the hard way every time myself. Tools exist for a reason.
