Almost told a client her house smelled like wet dog and old cigarettes.
Almost told a client her house smelled like wet dog and old cigarettes. I was cleaning a house in Arlington last Thursday and the smell hit me hard as soon as I walked in. Bit my tongue because she probably can't smell it anymore living there every day. Has anyone else held back a comment like that and felt weird about it later?

Arlington by the courthouse or over by the mall? Because the courthouse area has those old duplexes that trap smells like crazy. She probably doesn't notice it anymore though, you're right about that.

Did you ever hear that olfactory fatigue thing where your nose just gives up on smells after a while?

...and @milesj70, are you saying the smell just disappears completely, or does your brain get so used to it you just stop noticing it? Like, if someone walked into your classroom after a week off, would they smell something you've totally tuned out? I've always wondered if that's a superpower or just weird biology...
