Serious question, why do people plan their last meal around a fancy restaurant they have only eaten at twice?
I turned 58 on Sunday and my wife asked me to finally write down my last meal for this group, so I sat with it for a while. What I keep coming back to is the small stuff, not a tasting menu. My answer is my mom's pot roast with the carrots cooked soft and a slice of white bread to soak up the juice, eaten at her kitchen table in Rockford, Illinois, where she made it about 400 times. A famous chef can cook me one great plate, but he cannot cook me a memory from 1974. Curious what small home dish other people here would pick over something expensive.
My buddy Dave drove 3 hours back to his grandma's old house in Dubuque just to eat her goulash recipe one more time before he moved to Florida. Said the fancy steakhouse downtown couldn't touch a bowl of that stuff made in the same pot she used for 40 years.
