Hot take: fresh pasta for a last meal is overrated
I keep seeing people say they want fresh handmade pasta as their final meal. But my pasta machine broke halfway through making fettuccine last Tuesday and I spent 45 minutes trying to fix it. Ended up using a rolling pin and a knife to salvage the dough. Tasted fine but the whole experience reminded me that boxed spaghetti is way more reliable when it actually matters. If I'm going out, I want something that won't fail me at the worst possible moment. Wouldn't you rather have something simple that you know will hit every time?

My mom's box of Barilla spaghetti got me through a rough night last fall when I burned my hand on the stove and still needed to feed my crew. Twenty minutes and a jar of Rao's later we were all set. That pasta machine frustration rings a bell for me too, I messed up a batch of pappardelle on Christmas Eve once and swore off fresh stuff for holiday dinners. Boxed spaghetti never judges you when you're in a hurry and it always cooks the same.
