That competition pitmaster in Kansas City changed my mind about foil wrapping ribs

I always thought wrapping ribs in foil was cheating until I spent a weekend at the American Royal and watched a guy take 10th place with the most tender racks I've ever tasted. He spent 3 hours on the smoker then 2 hours wrapped in foil with apple juice and honey, and I couldn't argue with the bite. Anyone else had a similar experience that made you change your technique?

The 2 hours wrapped part is exactly what flipped my thinking too. It made me realize most of us get stuck in "purist" mode on things until we see the actual results in front of us. Isn't that the same way with everything from cooking to home repairs, where we swear by one method until something better comes along?

@the_john nailed it, people lock into a method and treat it like a religion until someone proves them wrong. It's the same with car maintenance or even choosing a phone - we all get stubborn about what works until we see a better result sitting right in front of us. Foil wrapping ribs taught me that being open to change doesn't mean you were wrong before, it just means you're willing to improve.
