Showerthought: My offset smoker lid seal gave out mid-cook last Sunday
I was 4 hours into a brisket for the family when I noticed smoke pouring from the lid gap. Turns out the gasket tape I put on last summer just peeled off from the heat and grease. Anyone else have a better way to stick that stuff on?

Used high-temp RTV silicone under the tape, still holding strong a year later.

... I mean is a little smoke really gonna ruin the meat that bad? I had the same thing happen on my old Oklahoma Joe and just let it go for the rest of the cook. Brisket came out just fine, still got a good bark and everything. Gasket tape is nice but it's not like the thing falls apart without it.

Fired up my stick burner two winters ago in 15 degree weather, and the door gap was so bad I could see the firebox lid lifting. I just grabbed a roll of the cheap fiberglass gasket from the hardware store for like 8 bucks and slapped it on. Held up for three seasons before I had to replace it. Sure, you can run it without, but you're losing heat and fuel every time that gap pulls in cold air. Why make your fire work harder than it has to, you know?
