Remember that crazy rainstorm during the Austin BBQ Fest back in '18?
My buddy's offset smoker almost floated away when the tent flooded, but we kept the fire going under a tarp and the brisket still turned out perfect. The whole thing felt like a weird test of will, standing in ankle-deep water just to check the temp. Anyone else ever have a cookout turn into a survival situation?

That Austin storm was something else, I remember seeing pictures of Guadalupe Street looking like a river. Honestly, it feels like these messed up cookouts are a sign of the times now. You plan something normal and basic, and the weather just goes off the rails. Tbh, it’s the same with trying to have a simple park day or drive across town. The plan never survives first contact with the real world anymore, so you just have to roll with it like you did with your brisket.

My Weber kettle grill once became a life raft for a family of raccoons during a flash flood in my backyard. I was trying to smoke a pork shoulder for six hours when the whole patio turned into a lake. The coals were drowning, but those raccoons looked so peaceful floating around on the lid. I had to admit defeat and order pizza, which felt like a personal failure.

Ngl, "the plan never survives first contact with the real world" is exactly it. Honestly feels like just trying to do anything normal is a fight now.
