That's exactly the kind of thing that sticks with you... I was watching a BBQ documentary on PBS the other month and one of the old timers said something similar about how you can't rush a good smoke. It's funny how a few words from someone who's been doing it for decades can just hit different. I guess that's why I still remember some random advice my grandpa gave me about seasoning cast iron. Makes you wonder how many other little tips are out there just waiting to be passed along.

Oh man, my grandma had a trick for getting rid of fruit flies with apple cider vinegar and dish soap.

My friend tried that vinegar trick once and left the jar on the counter for a week. She forgot about it and ended up with a science experiment that smelled worse than the fruit flies. Took her another two weeks to work up the nerve to throw it away.
