Humble brag or honest mistake? That $200 FireBoard controller I bought last summer split my BBQ crew in half
I dropped $200 on a FireBoard 2 Drive controller for my offset smoker, thinking it'd make me look like a comp pro. My buddy Jake says it's cheating and takes the soul out of pit cooking, but I've pulled two perfect briskets in a row without babysitting the fire. Anyone else get flak for using fancy gear, or do you think the old-school way is better for real flavor?

Tell Jake to come over and taste the difference since his backyard brisket tastes like a campfire and regret lol.

Man backyard brisket is a whole different ballgame. You gotta respect the effort but that campfire taste is real. Ive had some buddies who think more smoke equals better meat and it just doesnt work that way. Temperature control is everything, you cant just throw wood on and hope for the best. Proper brisket is about patience and knowing when to wrap it. Your setup probably has way more consistency than a standard backyard rig.
