Found a cheap trick for keeping my smoker temp steady in winter
Last month I was fighting to keep my offset smoker above 225 in 20 degree weather out in my backyard near Indianapolis. I wrapped a moving blanket around the cook chamber and clamped it with binder clips, left the firebox open. It held at 250 for 4 hours without me adding a single split. Has anyone else tried insulating their smoker like this for cold cooks?

Ha, yeah, a moving blanket is basically a cheap welding blanket. I did the same thing last year during a cold snap near Detroit. Wrapped the whole cook chamber in one of those thick fuzzy ones from Harbor Freight. Held 275 easy for six hours on a single load of lump charcoal. My only complaint was it smelled like a burning garage for the first hour.

Wait @margaret_taylor42, didn't yours smell like a burning garage too? I swear half the flavor came from that blanket lol
