My aunt told me my pie crust was 'too tough' and honestly it stung but she was right
She said I was overworking the dough from being too scared of cold butter chunks, so now I stop mixing way earlier even if it looks lumpy. Has anyone else had a family member call them out on something that actually fixed a recurring bake fail?

Man my grandma told me my cookies had "no personality" once and she wasn't wrong, I was just rushing through the dough like I was late for something. Stopped overmixing and suddenly they weren't hockey pucks anymore.

Ever think the "personality" thing is actually about how you handle the dough? I tested that theory once. Overmixed a batch for a bake sale, they spread into flat discs. Then I barely mixed another batch, left lumps of butter. Those cookies came out tall and soft with this weird crispy edge. My grandma would probably call the lumpy ones "rude" but at least they had something to say.
