Yesterday's sourdough batch exploded in the oven like a science experiment

I opened the door to check on it after 20 minutes and the whole loaf had cracked right down the middle - steam burst out like a geyser. Anybody else ever have a loaf go full volcano on them?

Oh man, that is hilarious and terrible at the same time! Honestly, I've had a loaf crack like the earth during an earthquake before but never a full-on geyser situation. Tbh, that steam explosion means your dough was probably way too wet or your oven was too hot, letting it burst like a balloon. Ngl, I'd still eat the crispy bits though, cracked bread is still bread.

@julia_lee ngl, the geyser part is a bit exaggerated, probably just trapped air lol.
