TIL not to trust a 3am sourdough starter recipe from a random blog

I found a recipe that promised a bubbly starter in just 24 hours if I used pineapple juice. Bought a whole jug, followed it exactly, and ended up with a jar of pink, smelly goo. Wasted about $5 on the juice and a whole bag of flour. What's the weirdest 'shortcut' you've tried that totally backfired?

Pineapple juice? That's the wildest starter tip I've ever heard.

Saw someone swear by using potato water to speed things up once. That experiment smelled like a science project gone wrong!

Wait, was the potato water actually supposed to help or was that just an old wives' tale? I've heard you should NEVER use anything starchy for a starter because it feeds the wrong bacteria.
