The $15 bread lame that paid for itself in a week
I was using a razor blade to score my loaves for like 6 months and kept getting jagged tears until I picked up a cheap lame from a kitchen supply store near my place. That little handle with the curved blade made my boules look professional and I stopped losing steam halfway through a batch. Anyone else find one random tool that just clicked and made everything easier?

Yeah I was totally skeptical about spending even $15 on something that looked like a glorified stick with a blade. I figured my razor blade technique would get there eventually. But after snagging a cheap one at a farmers market I had to eat my words. First batch of sourdough with it and the cuts opened up so clean it felt like cheating. Now I don't even bother trying to score with anything else. What changed your mind about using a bench scraper?

I totally get that feeling with the razor blade, I fought with those jagged tears for months too. The curved blade on a lame makes such a clean cut that it really changes how the bread opens up in the oven. It is nice when one small tool saves you all that frustration.
