Spent 3 hours trying to fix a flat buttercream cake before realizing the cake was level the whole time

I was about ready to throw my offset spatula across the kitchen at Sweet Delights Bakery in Tulsa. Kept adding more buttercream to one side trying to make it look even, but it just kept getting worse. Turns out my cake leveler was set crooked and the cake itself was fine. Has anyone else chased a problem that was actually your tools fault? It took me way too long to figure that out.

Did you check if your cake stand was wobbling on the counter first?

Did your friend ever tell you about the cake stand disaster at her sister's wedding? She spent three hours on that cake, set it on the stand at the venue, and the whole thing tipped over sideways. Turns out the floor was slightly sloped.

Level the whole thing with a folded coaster.
