Overheard a customer at the Portland farmers market say they could taste the difference between my butter and a competitor's.

They specifically mentioned my croissants had a 'cleaner, richer finish' compared to the ones from the stall two rows over. I've been using the same European-style butter from a local creamery for three years now. Has anyone else had a customer pinpoint an ingredient like that?

Yeah, that's the thing about using good ingredients. People might not know the exact reason, but they can feel it. It's like how a cheap t-shirt feels scratchy and a good one just feels right. That "clean finish" they mentioned? That's your butter not leaving a greasy film behind. It's a real compliment when someone notices the work you put in.

That's the good stuff right there.

Come on, it's just butter. People say stuff like that all the time to be nice. They probably just liked your croissant more that day. It's not some big science experiment they can actually taste the source. It's just food.
