My 60 year old rye starter died after I left it on the counter during that 95 degree weekend in Fresno
I fed that starter every day for 3 years and it never let me down, but I got lazy and left it out Saturday through Monday while the AC was off. Came back to a jar of pink fuzzy stuff that smelled like nail polish, so I tossed the whole thing and almost cried. Is there any way to save a starter once it goes pink, or do I really have to start from scratch with a new jar?
