Bought a $60 silicone baking mat that started peeling after 3 uses
Followed the instructions to a T, kept it away from sharp stuff, hand washed it. Now I got little black flecks in my cookies. Anyone else had this happen with a specific brand?

Black flecks in cookies? That's genuinely horrifying.

@grace_white oh man, you have NO idea. My friend Jessica once made a batch of chocolate chip cookies for a potluck and brought them in all proud. Everyone grabs one, takes a bite, and someone goes "hey, what's with the black specks?" She thought she just used too much vanilla or something. Turns out she'd grabbed the wrong container from her pantry and used black pepper instead of cinnamon. Not joking. People were coughing and reaching for water. She doesn't bake anymore. I still bring it up every time we see cookies at a party.

That "genuinely horrifying" line from grace_white nails it. Black pepper cookies sound like a nightmare, especially for a potluck where everyone's expecting normal dessert. Same frustration as the mat flakes though - you think you're doing everything right and something invisible ruins the batch. I'd bet that's a cheaper brand mat, not the ones that are common in pro kitchens.
