Was skeptical about calling the cops on my neighbor's loud parties - now I'm glad I did
Honestly, for 2 months I just dealt with my neighbor blasting music until 3 AM every Friday and Saturday. I kept thinking 'they're just having fun, I don't want to be that guy.' Then last week they started a bonfire at midnight that sent smoke right into my bedroom window. I called the non-emergency line at 12:30 AM and the cops came in 15 minutes. They talked to the neighbor, turned the music down, and now I've had 3 quiet nights in a row. Has anyone else held back on reporting noise and regretted not doing it sooner?

Read a study a while back that said most noise complaints don't escalate into anything serious, people just need to be reminded there are other people around. Sounds like your neighbor was just oblivious, not malicious. Quiet nights are worth that fifteen minute call for sure.

Oh man, same thing happened to me with my neighbor's barking dog. I waited like 4 months before calling and felt so stupid once it was handled in one conversation! That smoke situation sounds terrible, you definitely made the right call.

Yeah, exactly! That's the kicker, you build it up in your head and then it's over before you know it. Actually, I had a buddy who had a super loud neighbor playing guitar at 2am and he just suffered through it for like two months before finally saying something. Turned out the guy had no idea the walls were that thin and felt awful, started wearing headphones that same night. It's wild how just one awkward conversation can fix stuff that feels like it's gonna turn into a full on feud. So your neighbor calling about the smoke, that's totally the kind of thing nobody should wait on for sure.
