Tried a white noise machine to block out the party house, it backfired

The people behind me have a pool and throw loud parties every Friday. Last month, I bought a LectroFan white noise machine and aimed it at the shared fence. It just made a low hum that mixed with the bass from their music, creating a weird drone that was somehow worse. I learned you can't out-noise a determined party crew with a small box. Anyone found a better way to deal with this that doesn't involve moving?

White noise machines are a total gamble with bass. You need something that actually blocks the sound, not just covers it. Good earplugs designed for sleep might be your only real fix.

My old apartment's bass vibrations made white noise useless, earplugs saved me.

Yeah, "total gamble with bass" is right. I tried a white noise machine once and ended up with a weird robot heartbeat sound.
